Healthy Skin Isn’t Perfect Skin. Here’s What It Actually Looks Like.

Stephanie is mid-cleanse, with her hair pulled back in a headband. Her hands are on the sides of her face, and the makeup is starting to melt away,.

W&R honors real skin

Your skin is beautiful, however it shows up.

Spend enough time on social media, and it’s easy to believe healthy skin should be perfectly smooth, poreless, and glowing every hour of the day.

Then you sit in an esthetician’s treatment room.

I spend my days looking at real skin. Skin that has spent weekends hiking, afternoons at the lake, years raising children, long hours in the office, and countless moments simply living life. One of my favorite parts of my work is helping people realize their skin is often healthier than they think it is.

Somewhere along the way, many of us started believing healthy skin and perfect skin were the same thing. They aren’t.

Healthy Skin Has Texture/Pores/color

One of the first things clients point out during a facial is their pores.

“I hate these.”

“They’re so noticeable.”

“I wish I could get rid of them.”

The truth is, everyone has pores. They allow your skin to do its job by producing oil that keeps it healthy and protected. Seeing them doesn’t mean something is wrong. It means your skin is functioning the way it was designed to.

The same goes for the little things we tend to criticize about ourselves.

Freckles.

A bit of redness.

Smile lines beginning to appear.

The occasional breakout.

These aren’t signs that your skin has failed you.

They’re part of being human.

So What Does Healthy Skin Look Like?

Instead of asking whether your skin is flawless, try asking different questions.

Does it feel comfortable?

Does it recover well after being outdoors?

Is it hydrated?

Does it feel supported instead of irritated?

Does your skincare routine leave your skin feeling balanced?

Those are the things I pay attention to during a facial.

Healthy skin isn’t about checking every box on a beauty standard. It’s about giving your skin what it needs to function well through every season.

What Professional Skincare Can Do

A facial isn’t about chasing perfection.

It’s about supporting your skin so it can continue doing what it does best.

Professional treatments help replenish hydration, strengthen the skin barrier, encourage healthy cell turnover, and address concerns before they become bigger frustrations. They also create space to slow down, check in with your skin, and adjust your routine as your needs change.

There isn’t one version of healthy skin.

The healthiest skin belongs to someone who understands it, cares for it consistently, and works with it instead of against it. If you’re not there yet, i can help.

A Different Goal

Over the years, my own definition of beautiful skin has changed.

I still love skincare (obvi). I still enjoy trying new treatments and learning about ingredients. But I no longer measure success by whether my skin looks perfect.

I measure it by how it feels.

Comfortable.

Healthy.

Resilient.

That’s the kind of skin I want for myself, and it’s the kind of skin I hope every client leaves Winnie & Ruth feeling proud of.

Healthy skin doesn’t have to be perfect.

It just needs to be cared for.
