Why now is the most supportive time for skin renewal

There’s a rhythm to skin, just like there’s a rhythm to the seasons.

Winter and early spring are what we lovingly call peel season. Not because your skin needs fixing, but because this is when it’s most receptive to intentional change. Less sun, cooler air, slower schedules. it’s a window where we can work with your skin instead of pushing against it.

At Winnie & Ruth, peel season isn’t about dramatic downtime or chasing extremes. It’s about refinement, clarity, and long-term results that still feel like you.

What Peel Season Really Means

Peel season refers to the time of year when professional exfoliation treatments (like chemical peels) are safest, most effective, and easiest to recover from. Lower UV exposure and cooler temperatures reduce inflammation risk and help your skin heal beautifully after treatment.

This doesn’t mean peels are harsh or scary. Modern peels (especially the ones I choose to work with) are controlled, customizable, and deeply supportive when done correctly. The goal isn’t to peel for the sake of peeling - it’s to encourage healthy cellular turnover and strengthen the skin over time.

What a Peel Does (and What It Doesn’t)

A professional peel works by gently encouraging your skin to let go of built-up, dull surface cells so newer, healthier cells can come forward. Over time, this supports:

  • Smoother texture

  • More even tone

  • Brighter, clearer skin

  • Improved response to your home care products

What it doesn’t do? Punish your skin, strip it raw, or force dramatic shedding for shock value.

Peeling is not the goal. Skin renewal is.

Some flaking can happen, some clients barely peel at all, and both are completely normal.

REMEMBER: Physical peeling skin is a side effect, not the goal

Why Winter → Early Spring Is Ideal

Here’s why this season works so well, especially at elevation:

  • Less sun exposure = lower risk of post-treatment sensitivity

  • Cooler weather = calmer, less reactive skin

  • More consistency = easier to commit to a series rather than a one-off

Starting peels in winter allows us to build results gradually, so by the time spring arrives, your skin feels clear, resilient, and balanced-not fragile or overworked.

This is especially important in high-altitude environments, where UV exposure is stronger year-round and barrier support matters more.

The Winnie & Ruth Approach to Peels

I work exclusively with Sorella Apothecary professional peel systems because they align with my philosophy: results without aggression, plants + science, and skin that feels supported throughout the process.

Every peel is customized based on:

  • Your skin history

  • Your current routine

  • Your lifestyle and seasonal exposure

  • What your skin is ready for, not what’s trendy

Peels here are often done as part of a thoughtful series, layered into your regular facial rhythm-not as a standalone “fix.”

Is Peel Season Right for You?

Peel season is especially supportive if you’re noticing:

  • Persistent dullness or rough texture

  • Congestion that doesn’t fully clear with facials alone

  • Sun damage or uneven tone from past seasons

  • Skin that feels “stuck” despite good home care

If you’re unsure, that’s okay. We always start with a conversation. Sometimes refinement (not resurfacing) is the right first step.

Gentle Change > Quick Fixes

Peel season is an invitation to slow down and be intentional with your skin. To choose progress over pressure. To trust that small, well-timed changes create the most lasting results.

If you’re curious about peels, winter is the time to explore-calmly, safely, and with support every step of the way.
